A 90 Day Writing Challenge (Because Why Not?)

by E.V. Jacob on October 18, 2013

It’s still technically today, so this post counts. I am on the ball over here.

 ——

So last night, I–rather abruptly–decided that not only would I start a 90 Day Writing Challenge (aided by the very good book, 90 Days To Your Novel by Sarah Domet), but I would blog about it every day.  Because this is a good idea.  Yes.

Anyway, I’ve been reading the book, but I didn’t start the official challenge until today.  And in the true spirit of being me, I started off by skipping the assignments of Day 1 and Day 2 because I am a delinquent, and because I didn’t like them.

OK that isn’t all there is to it:  A lot of the early exercises are for helping you even come up with an idea, but I have my story pretty solidly lined up already, as well as characters and major details.  I mean, honestly, I technically have a first draft written, I just need to make it…you know…good.

So anyway, what I ended up doing today was devoting about an hour and a half to doing some research that I really, really needed to get done.  It’s the kind of research that is so necessary that you literally can’t do anything more with the story until you have these facts, and because my co-author and I are sticklers for details and accuracy, it had to be researched to death and back again.

With that research done, a lot of the fleshing out of the deeper aspects of the story can now happen, which is likely what I’ll end up doing tomorrow (you know, since I’m skipping assignments because I’m a rebel without a cause).

Oh!  Also!  You should check out my Twitter buddy, Christiney (@christineysong) who is also doing this 90 Day Challenge with me.  You should check her out regardless because she is awesome and you don’t want to miss out on that.

With today as my start date, I’ll have this novel completed by 16 January 2014.  Pretty cunning, don’t you think?

(Especially exciting considering I might even have a title for the damn thing by then. DARE TO DREAM, GUYS.)
